THE THEORY OF THE SOFA
Reviews
The story is about a cast of twenty-something young adults growing up in the late 1960’s. This varied group of individuals is propelled along through life fueled by a crazy mix of love, sex, idealism, and a big dose of adventure. The end result is a page turner that will keep you reading until you have reached the last sentence. – Denis Hammond
This is a GREAT read. It’s funny and smart and insightful, bringing the spirit of 1969 vividly to life. The characters, settings, and experiences in this suspenseful coming-of-age saga are beautifully rendered. The novel weaves together the lives of three young men from various backgrounds, and we watch as they and their families and friends contend with the overwhelming and exciting changes of a tumultuous era that is, in fact, not so very different from our own. Don’t miss it! – Ann Murphy
I got this only a few days ago and the writing was so accessible and compelling that I just devoured this book. I felt like I was swept into these characters lives, putting me seamlessly into a very specific historical time (50s, 60s, & 70s) and place. Full disclosure – I grew up in New England so the descriptions of NH, in particular, struck a very real and deep chord with me. I laughed and cried – both in joy and in sorrow. My stomach clenched with the visceral memory of how complex and awkward growing up is and my heart stuttered with the play by play of “the big game.” Even before I could see how the lives of these 3 boys/men converged, I enjoyed getting to know them. And then their stories merged (no spoilers here) and I could see that this was a showdown between the characters but also between ways of life. It highlighted how much your beginnings influence your “right now” and, for better or for worse, everyone carries the lessons learned from childhood into their adult decisions. – April Check
A Boomer’s delight! Great characters bring back fond memories of the 60’s as they come together for a climactic thriller. The scenes of sporting events are particularly wonderful. – Chris Miller
A great read! Compelling on several levels – as suspense, as a cultural/historical education, as a character(s) study. The weaving of players and storylines is very artful and it’s the kind of book I could read again and pick up all sorts of things I missed the first time through. – David Chatsworth
I got this as a birthday present and loved it. Great read. Character study turns into a wonderful mystery. – Ellen Miller
